The Marlborough Civic Orchestra - with pianist Michael Tsalka & Cathy Irons' Classical Jazz Quartet

Enjoy a concert full of variety and exceptional talent when the Marlborough Civic Orchestra present a wide-ranging programme with acclaimed Israeli pianist Michael Tsalka, and Christchurch violinist Cathy Irons with her Classical Jazz Quartet.
Formed in 2016, the Marlborough Civic Orchestra brings together a talented group of Marlborough musicians playing a selection of strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion.
Here they are having fun hamming it up performing “Happy”, complete with hats and masks.
The MCO's guest artist is early keyboard performer and pianist Michael Tsalka (Israel/Netherlands). Michael has won numerous prizes and awards in Europe, the U.S.A., the Middle East, Asia, and Latin America. A versatile musician, he performs with equal virtuosity a wide repertoire from the early Baroque to modern day on the harpsichord, fortepiano, clavichord, square piano, chamber organ and modern piano.


In this concert Michael will play Chopin Concerto No 2 with the orchestra.

The Classical Jazz Quartet have been performing together as a collective group locally and nationally over the last few years. Featuring Cathy Irons on violin, Barry Brinson on piano (who create the core members of the group) they are joined by Michael Bell on upright bass and Tim Sellars on drums fruitful fusion of the classical and jazz musical worlds.
