The Road to China

The Road to China

The Marlborough District Brass Band

7.30pm Thursday 29 June

Marlborough Brass are on the road to China, where they have been invited to perform at the largest performing arts festival in the world, the Shanghai International Music Festival.

It is an enormous honour for the band to be selected as the sole New Zealand participant in the festival, playing to a massive live audience, which at last year's festival was estimated to have reached 9 million!

Under a succession of outstanding musical directors - the present incumbent is Theatre Trust Chairman Kevin Moseley - Marlborough's Band has consistently reached the top tier of New Zealand bands, so to be selected to represent our country in Shanghai is a well-merited honour.

Expect the Band to be excited and on top form in this brilliantly polished performance for a full house of 700 at the ASB Theatre, getting in shape for their next audience - 9 million!! The Band will be demonstrating the full range of its repertoire, and will include in the programme Tchaikovsy's Capriccio Italien, Ravel's Bolero (the Torvil and Dean figure-skating classic), Goff Richard's Russky Percussky and the River Dance Finale.

They will be joined by Blenheim-based Welsh soprano Elin Tomos leading a soprano chorus which will join the band for several numbers as  well as displaying her stunningly powerful voice in solos accompanied by the Band.

Do not miss this concert! And if you haven't seen our band in action before, treat yourself to a storming evening of great music played by great people preparing for a great trip.
