Blenheim Musical Theatre
This year BMT celebrated the opening of the new ASB Theatre with a magnificent production of the international hit musical Mamma Mia.
This is the first musical produced by BMT as part of the New Zealand Consortium of Musical Theatre, formed to collaborate in the production of major musicals. BMT are now able to join the Consortium because they now play in a fly-tower theatre - the new ASB Theatre.
In 2018 they will present their second musical produced as a member of the Consortium - Mary Poppins. Cavalcade will be negotiating with BMT to include this wonderful show in our 2017-18 season.
And that's all the news we are allowed to tell you, leaving unanswered the question of what will BMT produce in 2017. We may know what it is, but we are sworn to secrecy. But we do know that it will be a monster show. Watch this space - it will be stunning!

The beginning
Just ten men sowed the seeds of the society’s foundation at a meeting on the afternoon of Tuesday 12 February 1918. There was a shortage of musical theatre in town and returning NZ service men had experienced some of the popular shows in London. A publicly advertised meeting attracted 60 people to the council chambers and Blenheim Amateur Operatic Society was formed.
