The Combined College musical Production of Evita brings to the stage the timeless story of Eva Peron, second wife of Argentine president Juan Peron - her early life, rise to power, charity work and eventual death.

While it may be an age-old rags to riches tale, Evita broke new ground in the world of musical theatre, and went on to win almost every award available in the West End and Broadway.

This production of Evita marks the first time a New Zealand high school has ever performed the show. Join the Marlborough Girls’ and Marlborough Boys’ Colleges for their impressive interpretation of this popular musical.

Directed by Duncan Whiting, the Combined Colleges’ production of Evita stars Jessie Sawers in the role of Eva Peron, with Daniel Brunel playing her husband, Argentinian President, Juan Peron. Other lead roles are played by Amy Potts (Juan Peron’s mistress), Justin Cook (Eva’s former love interest) and Bryce Blackmore (narrator).

Following poor Argentinian girl Maria Eva Duarte who, from the humblest of beginnings, goes on to become first an actress then the President’s second wife, Evita plays out the story of a nation in the 1940s & 50s enthralled with the woman they idolised.

I have one thing that counts, and that is my heart; it burns in my soul, it aches in my flesh, and it ignites my nerves: that is my love for the people and Peron.

Eva Peron, Evita

Evita, music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, was the last show created by perhaps the most productive and famous collaboration in musical theatre. The show features all the hit songs we know and love, and the highs and lows of a truly captivating story, made all the more poignant by being based on a true story.

This fresh telling by a youthful and exuberant cast will enchant.
